Hi there,
I am a British TV documentary producer wishing to obtain a visa to work in LA.
I am at the very beginning of this process / journey and so I am trying to do as much research as possible.
From my initial research I feel that I may be able to present a case for a H1B visa (or perhaps an 01 visa).
It would be great to get some more information about the process and fees involved. I don't yet have a job offer in the US but I could contact the contacts available to me and visit the US to meet with companies and secure this in advance. However it would be good to be advised on the correct order to do things in.
Also how long does it normally take to obtain a visa of this type?
Any advice or information would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Depending on whether premium processing is selected, the INS may take between 15 days to 3 months to process a H1b petition. Processing fee is 150$.

Your prospective employer or agent must first get an approved O petition from the USCIS. After that you may apply for an O-1 visa either in your home country or a third county.
You must present the following documentation:
1.Form I-129 with O/P Supplement;
2. One of the following:
i. An advisory opinion;
ii. Evidence that an appropriate consulting entity does not exist;
iii. A request for expeditious handling; or
iv. A request for a waiver of the consulting requirements.
3. A company letter from the petitioning employer supporting the petition;
4. Supporting Documentation; and
5. Filing fee of $130.00.
The H-1B application process is complicated not only from a timing perspective, but also because a number of forms are required, and applications must be filed with both U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services and the Department of Labor.
The process of applying for an H-1B visa involves careful preparation and strategy. In years where a lottery system is in place, it is vital to submit a flawless application the first time. Mistakes and miscalculations in submission of the H-1B visa application process can mean that a visa applicant must wait for an entire year before he or she is eligible to submit another visa application.
